Born in 1978 in East Germany to a Pakistani Punjabi family, Khan spent his early childhood in East Berlin. His father, a diplomat, later moved the family to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Khan attended the Pakistan Embassy School. He describes his childhood in Saudi Arabia as innocent and peaceful.

In 2017, Khan was accused of engaging in inappropriate relationships with women under the guise of secret marriages. Allegations of spiritual abuse and misconduct surfaced, leading to criticism from various scholars. In response, Khan denied any wrongdoing, stating that the relationships were between consenting adults and were intended as potential marriages.
A group of prominent Muslim scholars, led by Imam Mohamed Magid, conducted an independent inquiry and concluded that Khan’s actions were inappropriate for someone in his position. Despite the controversy, he continues to have a strong following, though his reputation has been affected by the allegations.
